 A Note About Documentation

An institution is not generally allowed to ask, by law, if a prospective student has a disability. The Admissions office reviews each application on its own merits.
Students with disabilities must meet the same standards as all other applicants.

Therefore, it is not recommended that disability documentation be submitted with an application for admission or to the DSS office prior to the student being accepted.

  • Documentation can not be used in making an admission decision
  • Admissions staff are not trained in how to read disability documentation
  • If a student is admitted, the documentation would stay in the student's permanent file
  • Documentation is confidential and should be treated as such

The only office that should ever obtain disability documentation information is the DSS office.
